Opening a New Dropzone
The following steps are guidelines for opening a new dropzone. For assistance, please dont hesitate to contact the National Office.
- Obtain permission from land owner(s), municipality or any other regulations which may apply.
- An over-head map of landing area indicating where the actual/entire landing area(s) are as well as indicating any/all obstacles. (See PIM 1 Section 3 for more information).
- Obtain Transport Clearance (for dropzone recommendations, see PIM 1- Section 3 and/or CARS on Transport Canada’s website).
- A landing area waiver must be obtained from CSPA’s T&SC and approved by the BoD prior to any dropzone operations.
- When choosing a name, please check with the Head Office to avoid using a previously used or current group/club name.
- Have 5 current CSPA Registered Participants. Please note, an email from each RP must be sent to email@example.com confirming their change of dropzone.
- If opening a School, all Instructors/Coaches must have current CPSA affiliations and required CSPA ratings to hold the position indicated.
- Complete and return a CSPA Membership form, in full, including payment by cheque, credit card or money order. Forms available from the Head Office at firstname.lastname@example.org
- If any “satellite schools” are to be in operation during the season, please indicate this on the membership form when submitting (see the definition and terms of a satellite dropzone – see PIM 1 manual). All satellite operations must be pre-approved by the BoD which requires aerial shots of landing area(s) and a list of any/all obstacles. - Upon receipt of application at the Head Office, all ratings and qualifications are checked in the database. If all information is in order, it is then forwarded to the BoD for review and approval.
- If approved by the BoD, the applicant is then notified by the Head Office and the forms and documents corresponding to the type of Membership are sent out and operations may begin. An interim waiver confirming BoD approval will be issued for one year and is subject to review the following season.
- If not approved by the BoD, the applicant is then notified by the Head Office of the decision at which time changes can be made as long as they fall under the requirements and/or qualifications of CSPA and Transport Canada.
